Hello, I'm Denis
I'm Denis Ostapenko. If you ever see the patronymic, it's Oleksandrovych, the Ukrainian spelling, after my father, not the Russian Aleksandrovich. A small thing, but it's mine.
I'm forty. What I love hasn't changed since I was a kid: working out how something runs, then building the system that makes it run better, and getting people moving in the same direction.
For a long time I kept switching trades. Conveyor operator. Cleaner. Shift supervisor. Logistician. I used to call it restlessness. Now I think I was collecting parts, and they finally fit together when AI arrived.
When ChatGPT showed up, I lost a lot of sleep over it. I'd sit with it deep into the night, half amazed, half looking for some sign of a mind behind the words. Then I went further in, and further still. I don't see AI through the usual hype or wonder, and certainly not through fear. It's a magnificent tool that makes a professional even better at their own craft. A slide rule giving way to a calculator. That's all it is, and that's a great deal.
I study at University of the People and volunteer with UN Volunteers when I can. I work in English and Portuguese, English better, Portuguese still catching up. And I'm reading War and Peace in the original, slowly, the way it deserves.
Thank you for stopping by my page. I hope you find something here that's good company, and maybe useful.
Denis
